Come on over and join the fun—play Hanafuda with your fellow community members! We’re excited to let you know that after a summer break, we’re back with this program. We have several Hanafuda decks available during the event, on a first-come, first-served basis, for anyone eager to play. It’s a great chance to meet new friends, challenge yourself, and just have a good time! If you’ve learned how to play Hanafuda from Helen Nakano and her Sensei, now’s your moment to practice those skills in a friendly game.

This will be a relaxed, self-directed play session—no formal instructions will be provided. However, we’ll have instruction sheets available for those interested in learning more about this wonderful game. Everyone, no matter your experience level, is welcome to join! Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Hōʻike Open Mic is held every Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM by appointment only. Community members are invited to reserve a free 10-minute slot to share music, poetry, stories, ideas, or other creative expression. Performances are recorded and aired the following week on Hōʻike.

By the ages of 7-12, hula students have developed a longer attention span. They have greater facility in using a medley of hula implements, and are capable of more advanced choreography.

Participation in this hula halau (school) is one of the best introductions to Hawaiian language and culture. Children will learn both hula kahiko (ancient hula) and hula auana (modern hula), with the basic steps as well as oli (Hawaiian chants). Some classes may learn to use implements, such as the ipu (gourd drum).

Kumu Mālia imparts a genuine enthusiasm for learning as well as a deep appreciation of nature.

Please reserve your spot to participate and kindly let your instructor know of any injuries or contradictions. Your enrollment is a commitment to all 12 weeks and no credits are refunded for missed classes.

Class size for Keiki Hula is limited to 12 to ensure quality attention.

The Greener Reader Book Club reads and discusses fiction, non-fiction, and science fiction books as well as memoirs and biographies, with the intention of exploring various perspectives and counter-narratives on (past, present and potential) social, cultural, and economic norms and systems, and on the “unspoken complexities of the human heart”. We meet (almost always) on the last Tuesday of every month to read together in silent solidarity, share what else we're reading, and discuss the book of the month. 1-3 times a month we (try to) gather in public green space to read as well. Lin Rountree, known as "The Soul-Trumpeter," is a powerhouse and leading innovator in the Instrumental Soul/R&B and Contemporary Jazz genres. A polished trumpet player, songwriter, and producer, Rountree boasts an impressive resume with nine solo albums and 24 chart-topping Billboard singles, including five #1 hits.

His musical journey began at age 11, leading him to refine his craft at the prestigious Duke Ellington School for the Arts in Washington, D.C. He later joined Florida A&M University's legendary "Marching 100," where his passion for jazz blossomed through studying icons like Miles Davis and Freddie Hubbard.

Beyond his solo career, Rountree’s versatile talent has made him a sought-after collaborator for heavyweights like KEM, Dwele, George Duke, and Conya Doss. His international profile soared even higher in 2012 when he appeared in the hit feature film SPARKLE alongside Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks.

We service 110+ vendors each year with 60+ on site each week. This means each time you visit, there's something unique to explore. Regardless of when you come, there's always something for everyone!

Street parking is free on Sundays & we are surrounded by several public parking lots.
