Spam can harps, rice bag drums, tin can gongs, and other musical instruments made from repurposed rubbish are on display at Hamilton Library Bridge Gallery now through mid-August. All instruments were custom built by Benjamin Fairfield, author of the illustrated children's book Kani Ka 'Opala: How can garbage sing? Fairfield (lecturer at UH and Hawai'i Pacific University) was featured last October on the Conversation as a climate-action-artist-in-residence with the State Commission on Climate Change in 2025. Come view, play, and listen to an assortment of rubbish instruments. A great way to celebrate Earth Day and aloha 'aina.

Wahiawā Market Day happens every 3rd Saturday from 9 AM - 1 PM at the Wahiawa Value Added Product Development Center and is free to the public. It features innovative new food products, particularly new value-added products developed at the Center. Thereʻs music, food, shopping, and cooking and nutrtion demonstrations in our media kitchen. Enjoy shopping in our covered, air conditioned loft, meet new people, and find one of a kind omiyage and tasty treats.

FRIENDS OF HILO PUBLIC LIBRARY
BOOK SALE

Hilo Public Library Friends will host their semi-annual book sale on April 16, 17 & 18 at the Hilo Public Library located at 300 Waianuenue Avenue in Hilo. Thousands of books are available at great prices. Hardcover books are $1 and paperbacks are available for 50 cents. Children's books are 3 for $1. There will also be hundreds of CD's, DVD's, and vinyl records at $1 to $2 each.

The sales hours will be Thursday, April 16 from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Friday, April 17 from 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM, and Saturday, April 18 from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Members of Friends of the Library can shop during the preview on Wednesday, April 15 from 5:00 to 6:30 P.M. Non-members may join at the door on preview night for $10.

All proceeds support programs at the Hilo Public Library and the Friends scholarship fund.

Run, play and hop on over to the YMCA of Honolulu’s annual FREE Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 18, at all YMCA of Honolulu branches island-wide. Open to all ages, families enjoy hands-on, fun—while having a chance to explore and plan their child’s summer with the Y, including day camps, overnight camps, swim lessons, preschool, and more.

Whether you are a backyard grower or a small-scale farmer, the "Plant Doctor" is in to help your garden thrive.

Join us April 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Buddhist Study Center across from UH Mānoa for our Spring Festival with theme “Appreciating Our Ohana.” The event features workshops, entertainment, games and activities for the whole family.
