The Record Company was born out of a late-night hang in 2011, when Chris Vos (vocals, guitar), Alex Stiff (bass, backing vocals), and Marc Cazorla (drums, backing vocals) spun classic blues records like John Lee Hooker’s Hooker ’N Heat and swapped stories of their favorite concerts (Iggy Pop & The Stooges, among them). Energized by the evening, the three musicians reconvened the next day for a jam session at Stiff’s Los Feliz home. Before long, his living room would become the band’s epicenter as they wrote songs, performed for friends, and, eventually, recorded and mixed their debut album, "Give It Back to You."

Blending the soul of Delta blues with the power of classic rock and roll, the trio recorded much of the album live, giving songs like“Off the Ground,” “Rita Mae Young,” and “On the Move” a raw, immediate feel. They also incorporated slideguitar, pedal steel, piano, and harmonica, showcasing both their range and reverence for tradition while infusing it with modern energy.

This exhibition takes the viewer on a journey through the diverse regions of the Philippines featuring centerpieces of Filipino attire, from the southern Muslim and Indigenous communities in Mindanao, to the Indigenous communities in the northern Luzon region, to the predominantly Roman Catholic central Visayan Islands, to the national dress associated with Manila.

Honoring the deep connection between Hawai'i and the Philippines, a display of historical photographs shares the story of the Sakada, the first 15 Filipinos who immigrated to Hilo, Hawai'i, as labor workers in 1906.

The Hawaii Kai Library Community Bookstore will have %50 off of all History and Biography books for the month of January. The Bookstore Library has more then books of all genres such as: Puzzles and Games, Comics and Anime, A great Teen and Children's section, CDs, LPs, Cookbooks, Hawaiiana, DVDs, Audio books etc. at great prices. Please note that the Library Bookstore will be closed on Monday January 9th to observe Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. day.

Join Master Artist Bud Spindt for the Thursday Evening All Levels Class! Bud instructs beginner and intermediate students on glass fusing techniques while introducing tools used to accomplish your work. Bud structures his class where you bring a project idea, or have something in mind, and he helps you learn from start to finish how to fuse glass. Advanced students benefit from Bud's knowledge and experience, and it's just plain fun to be with other artists!

Rickie Lee Jones is an American musician, storyteller and two-time Grammy winner and eight-time Grammy nominee who has been inspiring pop culture for decades, beginning with her star-making self-titled debut, followed by the seminal Pirates. Named the “premiere song-stylist and songwriter of her generation” by The New Yorker and “The Duchess of Coolsville” by Time magazine, Jones released her Grammy-nominated album Pieces of Treasure in 2023, a reunion with Russ Titelman, who produced her first two records. Jones’ celebrated memoir Last Chance Texaco was named Book of the Year by MOJO and Best of Year lists by NPR, Pitchfork, and many more. The Independent writes, “There has always been something defiant about Rickie Lee Jones . . . a voice from a dream, elusive yet familiar, transcendent, a messenger from another place.”
