This exhibition takes the viewer on a journey through the diverse regions of the Philippines featuring centerpieces of Filipino attire, from the southern Muslim and Indigenous communities in Mindanao, to the Indigenous communities in the northern Luzon region, to the predominantly Roman Catholic central Visayan Islands, to the national dress associated with Manila.
Honoring the deep connection between Hawai'i and the Philippines, a display of historical photographs shares the story of the Sakada, the first 15 Filipinos who immigrated to Hilo, Hawai'i, as labor workers in 1906.
Wednesdays at Highway Inn Waipahu and Thursdays at Highway Inn Kaka‘ako feature a rotating lineup of local musicians perform from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Wednesdays at Waipahu feature Kapono Na‘ili’ili with Kata Maduli, Mistyreis and Mista Lawri, and Meldon Leong of Kapili Band with Scott Medeiros. Thursdays at Kaka‘ako feature Barrett Awai and Kevin Inn, Meldon Leong of Kapili Band with Scott Medeiros, and Jackie Burke. See myhighwayinn.com for the weekly schedule.
Enjoy live music from the talented local guitarist and singer, Darin Cumpston. He will performing relaxing sunset vibes at Hula's Bar & Lei Stand, Waikiki, from 6pm to 9pm. The event is free and welcome to adults 21+.

Whether you’re looking for an aloha shirt, local honey, a handmade holiday wreath, or native and ornamental plants for your yard, we’ve got you covered! Tropical ornamentals, including Hoya, native plants, ferns, orchids, jade vines, aroids, gingers, and carnivorous plants, will be available at the sale, along with a variety of other botanical art and crafts. We’ll also have ono grindz from Khao and Papas Food Truck, refreshing elixirs from Bitter Root Brewery, and live music by Kahuakai and friends! Support local vendors and do your holiday shopping with us this year! Proceeds from the sale help to support our mission of conservation, education, and research at Lyon Arboretum.
Admission is FREE! Reservations for parking are required and can be made on Eventbrite. Walk-up customers will be allowed in at 10:30 - 2:30, but must be dropped off at the entrance gate or find alternative parking in the upper Mānoa neighborhood.

About the Garden:
Step away from the city and enjoy a refreshing visit to Foster Botanical Garden, the oldest of the Honolulu Botanical Gardens. This 14-acre oasis features a world-class collection of tropical plants, including some magnificent trees planted in the 1850s by Dr. William Hillebrand. These trees mark the beginning of what would become the Honolulu Botanical Gardens.
What to Expect:
Tours are led by dedicated volunteer guides who have completed a six-week training program. They bring the garden to life with in-depth stories, history, culture, and fascinating insights into its plants and animals.
