Logan Lee traveled to Washington, D.C., earlier this month for the Society for Science's Regeneron Science Talent Search, where he presented his research on mosquitoes.

ʻIolani freshman Ben Liu is a pianist, a violinist in his school orchestra, and a winner of the Madeline Schatz-Harris Youth Concerto Competition. Studying piano under Bichuan Li, Liu has earned numerous accolades, including winning the American Protege International Music Talent Competition and performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Harpist/Pianist, Arabella Tan is the co-founder of WikiVision, a non-profit that aims to provide free cataract surgeries for uninsured and under-insured community members. Tan shares music that will be performed by students in a Fundraising Concert this weekend, Saturday, Aug. 24 at ʻIolani School. Tan is in the 11th grade at ʻIolani,and will be joined by 16 friends in this free concert.

It’s startling to think that 20 million people worldwide are blind because of cataracts. Here in Hawaiʻi, a group called WikiVision has helped more than a hundred people with free surgery to correct their vision. The brother-sister team of Alec and Arabella Tan are behind the student-led nonprofit.

ʻIolani School senior Maddux Springer graduates Saturday with $10,000 in his pocket. He won an award for his study of the relationship between high wastewater levels and fatal tumors in green sea turtles in Kāneʻohe Bay.
