About the Show
Prepare to be dazzled by world-class entertainer and expert in sleight-of-hand magic, Maui’s own David Kuraya. David is one of six elite magicians– and the only magician from Maui– who performed regularly at the renowned Warren & Annabelle’s Magic Nightclub in Lahaina before the fires. A deeply community-oriented performer, David, carries on the legacy of that beautiful show with the blessing of his longtime friend and mentor Warren. At each show, he donates parts of his proceeds to local charities.

More About David
David also entertains corporate groups and colleges throughout Hawaii and the United States mainland. He was the strolling magician for Tony Robbins’ “Connect to My Essence” seminar on Maui, resident magician at Mana Kai Resort, and headlining performer at the world-famous Magic Castle in Hollywood. David regularly entertains at private events for politicians, TV stars, and businessmen, such as the founder of Ellie Mae Inc., Sig Anderman, who said of David’s show, “I have worked with many magicians, but David is just THE BEST, as good as it gets, a ten out of ten.” Clients know they get more than magic when they book David Kuraya. His curated routines are original, clean, and personalized for each group. The Conversion of Ka’ahumanu is a play written by Victoria Nalani Kneubuhl, a playwright of Hawaiian and Samoan descent and graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa. This play focuses on the lives of three Hawaiian women and two missionary women as they experience personal and cultural changes in response to Western contact in Hawai’i.

Eight-time 2026 Na Hoku Hanohano award finalist and 2022 Kani ka Pila Grille Talent Search winner Anthony Pfluke has performed across the Hawaiian Islands, the U.S. West Coast, Asia and reaching as far as the Austrian alps. He is nominated for some of the most coveted categories in the 2026 Na Hoku awards including Male Vocalist of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year for his latest release, Ku’u Lei Lokelani, a tribute to his birthplace of Maui.

Anthony is regarded as one of the top ukulele players of Hawaii. This mastery combined with his invigorating 12-string Slack-key guitar and soul-stirring compositions, brought to life by his wide-range and captivating voice, enthralls audiences with every performance, leaving a lasting impression wherever he plays.

ABOUT JUNETEENTH
Juneteenth, officially Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a federal holiday celebrated on June 19 that commemorates the effective end of slavery in the United States. It specifically marks the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

About the Pono Project
The Pono Project is a series of live arts and culture events celebrating the diversity of the Maui community, promoting inclusion of marginalized persons, and educating on Maui’s history and challenges, bolstered by partnerships with other Maui nonprofits.
The Pono Project is supported in part by the County of Maui’s Office of Economic Development.
