A new proposal to try manage vacation rentals on O‘ahu got its first airing.
The Honolulu Planning Commission held its first public hearing yesterday on the administration bill. It lasted five hours and drew approximately 350 participants. The proposal expands the resort district in Waikīkī
to include the mauka side of Kūhiō Avenue and the area realtors call the "Gold Coast." It also expands the resort areas at Kuilima, Ko Olina and Mākaha.
Rick Egged, executive director of the Waikiki Improvement Association, was the first to testify on the issue. He shares his view on the latest development on regulating short-term vacation rentals.
