Timothy Shaffer continues to analyze civil discourse in polarized times. HPR's Catherine Cruz talked with Shaffer about when discourse becomes criminal.

Hawaiʻi was supposed to be the first stop for a series of talks by civil discourse speaker Timothy Shaffer from the University of Delaware. He was scheduled to speak at Chaminade University on Wednesday, but flight cancelations due to bad weather forced organizers to cancel the event.

Eight college men's basketball teams, including Honolulu's Chaminade University, are competing in the Maui Invitational tournament at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. The tournament is usually played at the Lahaina Civic Center on Maui, but the center is being used as a recovery hub following the August wildfires.

Several inmates at the Halawa Correctional Facility on Oʻahu received their associate degrees in May through a program offered by Chaminade University. Among them was Big Island native Kelson Akeo.

In its first year, the full ride Muʻo Scholarship will be available for an online program to earn a bachelor’s degree. The scholarship covers the cost of tuition, valued at $100,600, and takes 36 to 48 months to complete.

The state Department of Education is partnering with Chaminade University to offer 20 scholarships for those pursuing a degree in educational psychology.
