The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Oahu, Kauai and Niihau through Friday morning due to conditions that could produce heavy rains, thunderstorms and flooding.
A flash flood watch means that life-threatening flooding could occur quickly and that residents and visitors should take precautions.
The public was advised to monitor weather forecasts and be prepared to head for higher ground in the event of an emergency.
Forecasters attributed the expected rains to a deep tropical moisture band that will settle over the western part of the state through Friday morning.
Meanwhile, a small craft advisory is posted for mainly windward waters off the Big Island, Maui and Molokai.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
