Kamalani Academy faces possible budget cuts due to distance learning enrollment calculations

Kamalani Academy is a charter school out toward the North Shore of Oʻahu. Principal Amanda Fung plans to fight a decision by the State Public Charter School Commission not to count additional students in its remote learning program toward its total enrollment — which affects per pupil funding. The decision stands to cut the school’s budget in half by about $1.3 million. Fung shared why the school may take legal action.
