WASHINGTON — In a last-minute slap at President Donald Trump, a federal appeals court struck down one of his administration's most momentous climate rollbacks on Tuesday, saying officials acted illegally in issuing a new rule that eased federal regulation of air pollution from power plants.

LIHUE, Hawaii — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency plans to close 16 large capacity cesspools on Kauai as part of an ongoing effort to protect Hawaii's water resources.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency official who oversaw Hawaii and portions of the Western states was abruptly forced to resign last week – and is publically questioning why he was terminated. This comes as an ex-attorney for the nation's largest utility was named his replacement.

WASHINGTON — The Environmental Protection Agency abruptly pushed out its top regional official for California and other points West, touching off an unusual public dispute between the two over the reason why.

The long-awaited removal of soil with high lead levels on Factory Street in Kalihi won't start this month as planned. Instead the Environmental Protection Agency postponed the soil removal until next year because it is still seking a disposal site for the contaminated soil.

The public will have two chances this week to hear about the U.S. Navy's proposed plans to upgrade underground tanks at the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility to satisfy an agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Hawaii Department of Health.
