The title of Harue McVay's retrospective exhibition at Windward Community College Gallery ‘Iolani is "A Life Flowing", a most apt expression of her process. The 1950’s into the 70’s were heady times in the UH Mānoa Art Department. Early Department Chair, Ben Norris, championed contemporary art and brought in global talents like Jean Charlot, and Max Ernst, all of which had ripple effects across Honolulu. HPR’s Noe Tanigawa reports on a show by Harue McVay, whose ceramics exemplify the exuberance of the time.
