New HOLO cards cost $2 starting March 1

The HOLO card bus pass for Honolulu’s public transit system will have a $2 fee for new cards and replacements starting March 1.

The HOLO card has been free of charge since its debut in 2018.

Honolulu Department of Transportation Services Director Roger Morton says the new charge is intended to discourage single use of the cards.

"We have distributed more than 225,000 HOLO over the past few years and about 70,000 people use the cards each month," said Morton.

The electronic chips in HOLO cards are designed to last five years.

New bus riders are encouraged to get a HOLO card before they add the $2 charge fee on March 1.

HOLO card locations can be found at www.holocard.net, or call 808-768-4656 for more information.
