The state Legislature will once again take up the issue of raising the minimum wage this session. But one group of Hawaiʻi workers is already guaranteed to have an increase.

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management announced last week that federal civilian employees will be paid at least $15 an hour.

The change affects more than 2,800 workers in Hawaiʻi.

Across the nation, nearly 70,000 workers will be impacted. There are more than 2 million federal employees.

OPM directed affected agencies to implement the increase by Jan. 30, 2022.

Hawaiʻi’s current minimum wage is $10.10 an hour. A current proposal in the state Senate would increase it to $12 by October and $18 by 2026.
