Whether your keiki is a budding artist or just loves to get crafty, this free event is the perfect way to spend a Saturday morning.

Join the community for Urban Makahiki, a free, family-friendly cultural festival celebrating the Makahiki season. The event features live entertainment, hands-on cultural activities, and local food vendors. Enjoy performances by Sid and Tehani and Poi Beaul, try your hand at kōnane, make a lei, join a qi gong session, and watch martial arts demonstrations. The celebration begins with an opening ceremony and continues with live music, performances, and activities throughout the afternoon.

Welcome the Whale Watching Season
and Learn About Hawaiʻi’s Migratory Animals

WAIMEA, Island of Hawaiʻi—November marks the beginning of whale watching season, but did you know Hawaiʻi also welcomes other migratory animals?
Learn about the koholā (humpback whales), birds, and sea turtles that migrate to Hawaiʻi at Wildlife Treks!, a free community event hosted by Thelma Parker Memorial Public Library from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sat., Nov. 15. Everyone is invited to this family-friendly event.
Learn how to safely identify and observe these amazing animals, and what you can do to help them thrive. Activity and information stations will be hosted by the library and community friends, including Dolphin Quest, Girl Scouts of Hawaiʻi, Hawaiʻi Audubon Society, Hawaiʻi Preparatory Academy Sea Turtle Research Program, Hawaiʻi Wildlife Center, Mālama Honu, Mālama Honua, Mauna Lani Auberge Resorts, and local picture book author and illustrator Yuko Green.
There also will be a marine animal temporary tattoo station and a scream station.
Wildlife Treks! is presented as part of the nationwide Flight Path, which brings science-backed solutions to communities to build a safe world for birds. Flight Path is the first campaign under Spark of Science@My Library, a joint initiative between HHMI Tangled Bank Studios and the Star Library Education Network. Spark of Science@MyLibrary delivers high-quality, fun, engaging resources through targeted outreach campaigns to public libraries. Campaign themes showcase the process of science and focus on life science topics, including health, biology, and ecology.

About the Garden:

Step away from the city and enjoy a refreshing visit to Foster Botanical Garden, the oldest of the Honolulu Botanical Gardens. This 14-acre oasis features a world-class collection of tropical plants, including some magnificent trees planted in the 1850s by Dr. William Hillebrand. These trees mark the beginning of what would become the Honolulu Botanical Gardens.

What to Expect:

Tours are led by dedicated volunteer guides who have completed a six-week training program. They bring the garden to life with in-depth stories, history, culture, and fascinating insights into its plants and animals.
