It was a gathering that had been “pandemic postponed.” Chinese American veterans received their due Sunday after four tries. Those who had been in line to receive the Congressional Gold Medal finally were acknowledged for their service to our country. Twenty surviving veterans were on hand Sunday, as well as the families of those veterans who were not.
Retired Major General Robert Lee shared that minority groups played a large part in World War II. African Americans and those of Japanese, Filipino, and Chinese ancestry are owed credit for their part in the war effort. Lee spoke with The Conversation about the ceremony and the story of those Chinese American veterans.
