More than 2,100 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Hawai‘i's public schools since July 1. Education officials have been closely monitoring campuses in counties where the delta variant is surging. We caught up with state Department of Education Interim Superintendent Keith Hayashi on Thursday. He just returned from visiting the Big Island where he stressed that vaccinations, masking, handwashing and staying home when sick, are key to protecting our school communities.

The DOE has begun posting the numbers daily on its website. [Link] Hayashi said if parents have concerns they should contact the schools directly.
