Pricey Transformation on Lanai

A famous guest facility on the island of Lanai is about to re-open after being closed for the past four years. Rooms will be available starting in November—but they will require a pretty substantial investment.

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts has partnered with a wellness company co-founded by Larry Ellison — the tech billionaire who owns the island of Lanai — to transform the Lodge at Koele. That company is called Sensei, and Ellison’s co-founder is Dr. David Agus. With their input, and a new name, the Four Seasons Hotel Lanai at Koele, A Sensei Retreat, will reopen Nov. 1.

With 96 rooms and suites, the property will feature 10 private spas, a 24-hour fitness facility, two movement studios, a yoga pavilion, a salon, onsen baths, an 18-hole golf course, zip lines and rope adventure challenges and more.

It will also feature a new restaurant, Sensei by Nobu, with healthy menus using ingredients grown on Lanai at the Sensei farm. Lori Holland, spokesperson for Four Seasons, says the concentration of wellness expertise and amenities sets the property apart from competitors.

Four Seasons declined to share the total cost of the renovation but earlier estimates put it at $75 million. There’s a three-night minimum for stays at the hotel, starting at $7,800 per person
