This week on Helping Hand, we’re welcoming back Best Buddies Hawaii. Due to the pandemic crisis, they had a local Friendship Walk in April affected, as well as their programs. On a national level, Best Buddies chose to move 27 Friendship Walks to a virtual platform, and now they’ll do a collective June 20th event online. We’ll hear about that event, other adjustments to their programs and ways people can support the nonprofit as HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence speaks with State Director Karen Glasser and also highlights a conversation we had earlier this year with Bathey Fong, an Ambassador for Best Buddies and member of the UH chapter of Best Buddies.
Best Buddies an international effort raising awareness and funds to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), funding Best Buddies programs dedicated to one-to-one friendships, leadership development, and integrated job opportunities.
Helping Hand airs statewide on All Things Considered, and is then archived online here. On select Fridays, Helping Hand puts the spotlight on an organization topic or event that offers assistance to people with disabilities and people and animals that are among the most vulnerable.
