Leaders in the state Senate and House of Representatives announced on Friday that lawmakers will not attempt to override any vetoes issued by Governor David Ige.
In a memo distributed today to members of the Hawaii House of Representatives, House Speaker Scott Sakiki said that the legislature would not convene an override session due to a “lack of consensus” between the Senate and the House.
Governor Ige has identified 20 bills that he intends to veto of the 303 passed by lawmakers this year.
They cover issues including tax collection on vacation rentals, police seizure of private property, and industrial hemp.
The governor has until Tuesday, July 9th to make his final decision on issuing vetoes.
