If you were tricked into sending money to scammers via Western Union during the past two decades, there’s still time to claim a refund.
The state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs has alerted Hawaiʻi residents that they have until July 1 to file for a refund.
The refunds are part of a nearly $600 million settlement Western Union reached with the Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice.
They ruled that Western Union failed to guard against fraud.
People who were defrauded between January 2004 and January 2017 are eligible for a refund.
Those filing for a refund do not have to pay to file a claim and they do not need a lawyer.
