Surfer dies in Portlock area of Hawaii Kai

A surfer reported missing Tuesday in the Portlock area of Hawaii Kai has died, the Honolulu Emergency Services Department said.

Honolulu Ocean Safety responded to a call at 9:50 a.m. for a missing surfer, believed to be 30 years old, at the surf break known as Seconds. The woman was reported missing by friends.

Lifeguards responding on jet skis found the woman and brought her to the Maunalua Bay boat ramp. They performed CPR but she was pronounced dead, the department said.

The department said there are no lifeguard towers in that area of Portlock and Maunalua Bay, which consists of private homes and a rocky shoreline. However, mobile lifeguards respond to emergencies in the area.
