The Hawaiʻi Pandemic Modeling Working Group says it expects the lifting of COVID restrictions in all counties to result in a small increase in cases, but nothing like the past omicron and delta variant surges.

HiPAM scientists say the number of new COVID cases, which has been steadily decreasing, has plateaued in Honolulu.

They expect hospitalization numbers to eventually flatten as well, after falling sharply.

HiPAM says residents should still remain vigilant, despite the falling COVID case counts and lifting of restrictions.

Another omicron variant, BA-2, is causing a rise in infections in Europe, and several cases have been found in Hawaiʻi.
