Honolulu names new head of housing and homelessness office

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi has named a new director to coordinate initiatives addressing homelessness on Oʻahu.

Trish La Chica has been named executive director of the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Homelessness. She officially starts on Jan. 24.

La Chica succeeds Anton Krucky, who is now the director of the City Department of Community Services.

The administration has expressed interest in moving the Office of Housing and Homelessness to the Department of Community Services. The department handles housing assistance, workforce training and other human services.

La Chica was most recently the community and government relations manager at AlohaCare, a health plan provider primarily serving Medicaid and Medicare beneficiaries.

In 2020, La Chica was the Democratic candidate for the Hawaiʻi House seat representing Mililani. She lost in the general election to the incumbent, Republican Val Okimoto.
