The head of the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii is joining the race to become the state’s next lieutenant governor.

Sherry Menor-McNamara, president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce, says she will bring fresh ideas and 25 years of leadership and business experience to the role. She says that experience will be especially important as Hawaiʻi claws its way back from the economic devastation caused by the pandemic.

Menor-McNamara will run as a Democrat and face several other high-profile candidates in the August primary.

The race for the state’s number two job has attracted former State Senator Jill Tokuda, former Honolulu City Councilmember Ikaika Anderson, and State Representative Sylvia Luke.
