Waipiʻo Valley Road Closed for Labor Day Weekend

The Waipiʻo Valley access road on Hawaiʻi Island will be closed to non-Waipiʻo residents during Labor Day weekend.

The County of Hawaiʻi made this decision at the request of neighborhood residents.

They cited the area’s high traffic and roadway concerns since before the pandemic. But the increase in COVID-19 cases has now raised health concerns.

Guards will be stationed at the entrance of the road throughout the weekend.

Hawaiʻi County Mayor Mitch Roth encourages residents to stay at home as much as possible over the weekend.

"There will be ample time for us to get together and celebrate again, but that
time is not now,” Roth said.
