University of Hawaii Plans to Reopen Campuses to Public, End Employee Telework Policy

The University of Hawai?i announced it intends to reopen all 10 campuses to the public starting Tuesday and end its telework policy for all employees in August.

Employees at each campus could be headed back to working in-person by Aug. 3. They have been allowed to work remotely since September, the university said.

"This policy will be rescinded as current COVID-19 conditions no longer warrant the need for employees to work from home," the university said.

The university also said it will resume full, in-person services at its offices during normal business hours starting July 6.

Last week, the university presented the proposal to the three unions that represent UH faculty and other workers.

The unions need to approve the plans and agree to a vaccine policy for faculty. Although vaccines are not required for faculty at this current time, Daniel Meisenzahl from the UH Communications Office said most UH employees have shown an interest in getting vaccinated.

The university requested feedback from the unions by Friday.
