Eight football players from the University of Hawai?i at M?noa tested positive for COVID-19 over the past week, the athletics department announced Tuesday. This comes within two weeks of starting spring practice on March 25.

The football team directed 81 players to quarantine in their homes "out of an abundance of caution after UH medical officials consulted with the Hawai?i Department of Health," the school said in a statement.

Five players tested positive Tuesday, in addition to three positive tests prior, the school said. The players are reportedly doing well and have not experienced severe symptoms.

None of the players who tested positive attend in-person classes or live on-campus, according to the school. Thirteen players who live on campus will be temporarily housed off-campus to quarantine.

In-person team activities and practices are expected to resume on April 14 after the quarantine period ends.
