Offshore
HPR-1, Saturdays, 4 - 5pm, March 11 – April 8, 2017
"Offshore," the 10-part podcast from Honolulu Civil Beat, finds its way to radio. Over the course of five one-hour programs, the radio series explores issues of race and power through two killings in Hawaii, 80 years apart: the first, the death of Joseph Kahahawai in 1932 at the hands of a Navy officer, Lt. Thomas Massie; the second, the shooting of Kollin Elders by federal agent Christopher Deedy during the APEC economic summit of 2011.
Note: this program contains strong language that may be considered offensive to some listeners. Listener discretion is advised.
