Al Di Meola - Part Two - Off The Road with Dave Lawrence
Find the complete Off The Road series at hawaiipublicradio.org/offtheroad.
Today we have part two with legendary guitarist and songwriter Al Di Meola, the latest artist in our series of interviews with musicians joining HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence remotely from around the world, sharing how they’ve been touched by the pandemic and other crises, including Jack Johnson, Carlos Santana and Cindy Blackman Santana, Soul Asylum’s Dave Pirner and Alice Cooper.
Al Di Meola has been both personally and professionally affected by the coronavirus. Known for his work with Chick Corea, John McLaughlin and others, Al offers some riveting storytelling about how his latest Beatles-based album, Across the Universe, and tours for it, were heavily impacted by the coronavirus, and today he even plays some Beatles solo for us on the guitar as part of the conclusion to our special feature. Al joined us remotely from New Jersey, one of the early epicenters of the virus. You can also hear the complete nearly 45 minute interview performance session below, which includes another song Al played for us.
