IONA Contemporary Dance Theatre, a cultural institution known for its groundbreaking performances and visually captivating artistry, is celebrating its 35th anniversary with a special, immersive event at Capitol Modern (Hawai‘i State Art Museum) on November 7, 2025. Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives invites families to celebrate the holiday season with an evening of festivities and the best seats for the Honolulu City Lights Parade on Saturday, November 29, 2025, from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.Now in its 38th year, Honolulu City Lights has been a beloved holiday tradition since 1987, bringing joy to generations of families with its spectacular parade and festive celebrations. The iconic Electric Light Parade, featuring brilliantly decorated city vehicles from refuse trucks to fire engines, has delighted crowds since 1990 with its creative displays and community spirit.Guests can enjoy prime parade viewing from the elevated grounds of Hawaiian Mission Houses, which sit 18 inches above King Street level, offering an excellent vantage point for this beloved holiday tradition. For just $10 per person, attendees will have access to the viewing area and can participate in family-friendly activities from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., including 19th-century games and traditional candle making.The historic houses will be open for self-guided tours during the event, giving visitors a unique opportunity to explore two of Hawaiʻi's oldest documented buildings while celebrating the season.Food will be available for purchase on-site from John’s World Famous Hawaiian Hot Dogs and Cool Beans Coffee, though guests are welcome to bring their own refreshments. Come study the stars, travel across the Earth and into our solar system, and share stories with us in our J. Watumull Planetarium! Enter our Trivia Dome and test yourself with quiz questions spanning topics such as astronomy, natural sciences, history, and pop culture.
Show will have a quiz format. Families encouraged at the 6:00 p.m. show. Questions increase in difficulty in the 7:30 p.m. show. All ages welcome.
Stargazing with the Hawaiian Astronomical Society begins following the first show on the Great Lawn, weather permitting. Guests for either show may access the planetarium lobby and lawn area before and after their showtime, between 5:30-9:00 p.m.

The 54th Annual Holiday Craft Fair, sponsored by the Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives will be on Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is the oldest craft fair in Honolulu, and features only items made in Hawai‘i and the artists who make them.The Holiday Craft Fair is timed to help you get your shopping done early so you can enjoy the season. With over 40 vendors at Hawaiian Mission Houses featuring an array of Hawai‘i-made items, it will be easy for you to find that unique gift for someone special. All items sold are made in Hawai‘i: glass artwork, jewelry, pottery, woodwork, artistic silk scarves, photography, artwork and more! Bring the whole family to enjoy the event and the grounds that surround the oldest houses in Hawai‘i. Parking is available at metered street parking in the neighborhood or at the Fasi Building Municipal Parking lot.
