Hui O Wa’a Kaulua

Hui O Wa’a Kaulua is our Maui voyaging canoe organization. Their home base Hale was located on Front Street in Lāhainā. The Wa’a Mo’olele was dry docked for repairs and was lost in the fires along with HaniAli’i (the transport boat), all supplies, equipment, cultural artifacts, along with the personal belongings of Captain Timmy, John’s cousin. Mo’okiha O Pi’ilani, Maui’s Voyaging Wa’a sister to Hokule’a was spared, as she had just been moved to a further out dingy. She was sailed to Molokai the next morning for safety. Upon returning home there will be direct support needed for the future of this cultural jewel and the organization’s own aid efforts. www.huiowaa.org/
