Hawaii Island Malama Hawaii Community Meeting
Hawaii Island Malama Hawaii Community Meeting
The Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA), Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau (HVCB) and Island of Hawaii Visitors Bureau (IHVB) are hosting an informational meeting for community organizations and volunteer groups on Hawaii Island to learn more about its Malama Hawaii program and how they can get involved. The meeting will be held virtually on Zoom on Friday, February 25 from 3 to 4 p.m. Malama Hawaii encourages visitors to give back and engage in community workdays and volunteer opportunities. The program offers community organizations the opportunity to bolster its volunteer program with more participants, share their important work with mindful travelers and potentially convert volunteers into donors. It supports Action E of the Hawaii Island Destination Management Action Plan (DMAP) which aims to create opportunities for ongoing engagement between the visitor industry and community, and Sub-Action F.4 which is to collaborate with the visitor industry and community-based organizations for stewardship opportunities so that visitors may leave Hawaii Island connected to the aina, people and culture. During the informational session, attendees will learn about the Malama Hawaii program and how it will evolve in 2022, hear from current Hawaii Island Malama Hawaii community partners, and gain insights on how to incorporate visitors into pre-existing volunteer programs and activities.
