Hawaiʻi Symphony Composer-in-Residence discusses his original composition, "Raise Hawaiki"

Hawaii Symphony Orchestra Composer-in-Residence Michael Thomas Foumai talks with HPR's John Zak about the inspirational themes that inform his creative process, including sharing details about his original compositions, "Raise Hawaiki" and "Children of Gods."

Foumai also discusses his passion for supporting young and emerging musical artists while also expressing deep and abiding gratitude to those who have guided and assisted him on his creative journey.

We'll also get a preview of the next season of HSO-HPR Masterworks concerts, including Beethoven Fest, performances of all nine of Beethoven's iconic symphonies.

John Kalani Zak, the son of an airline executive father and a journalist mother, was born in Washington D. C. He has lived in and traveled to many locations around the globe, and is delighted to call Hawaiʻi his home.
