"The Below" by Scott T. Miller.

Something catastrophic has happened, and there's only one place left in the world where people can live — the Hawaiian Islands. That's the setup for "The Below," a new novel from first-time author Scott T. Miller.

He has a Ph.D. in global and international education from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. HPR spoke with Miller, who was inspired by the landscape of Oʻahu. He recalled the first time he saw the tall buildings along the H-1 freeway.
