Did you know that women were the first brewers of beer? This may be a surprising bit of history as the beer industry is very male-dominated in modern society. The Conversation recently visited Hana Koa Brewing Company in Honolulu to talk about women in local brewing with co-founder and Director of Operations Chrissie Pinney.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Hana Koa is set to launch its global beer collab “Shine a Light” on Friday in support of survivors and to help spur proactive change. This interview aired on The Conversation on April 28, 2022. The Conversation airs weekdays at 11 a.m. on HPR-1.

Lillian Tsang is the senior producer of The Conversation. She has been part of the talk show team since it first aired in 2011. Contact her at ltsang@hawaiipublicradio.org.
