For years, the risky business of maintaining the military’s massive and aging underground fuel tanks — as they sit precariously over our drinking water aquifer — has been a gamble. It’s been 24 hours since the Pentagon announced it will permanently shut down the facility. Many across the state are still trying to process the magnitude of what just happened. We talked to U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz just after hearing the word come down from the Department of Defense Monday afternoon.
