Over 1,000 Maui families are in a better financial position to qualify for affordable housing this year — thanks to the program House Maui. It was created by a partnership between Maui County, Hawaiʻi Community Foundation, and the Maui Financial Opportunity Center.

To get a better understanding of how the program helped those families, The Conversation talked with Rhonda Alexander-Monkres, program manager for the Maui Financial Opportunity Center, and Michelle Kauhane, a senior vice president for the Hawaiʻi Community Foundation.

This interview aired on The Conversation on Dec. 27, 2021. The Conversation airs weekdays at 11 a.m. on HPR-1.

Born in Honolulu and raised on Hawaiʻi Island, Russell Subiono has spent the last decade working in local film, television and radio. He was previously the executive producer of The Conversation and host of HPR's This Is Our Hawaiʻi podcast. Contact him at rsubiono@hawaiipublicradio.org.
