Earlier this month, a New York Times article claimed motorized bicycles, or e-bikes, were outselling all electric cars in the U.S. in 2021. According to the Hawaii Auto Dealers Association’s 2021 third quarter report, electric vehicle sales are strong. They make up nearly 14% of all new vehicles on the road, with Tesla having the largest percent gain in registrations.

So how is the e-bike market doing in Hawaiʻi? The Conversation sat down with Lee Chamberlain, one of the owners of RideSmart Maui, to discuss e-bikes and the biking lifestyle on the Valley Isle.

This interview aired on The Conversation on Nov. 29, 2021.
