The Honolulu Police Department and city prosecutors are turning their focus to strategies and tactics to address illegal racing on O‘ahu’s roadways. It comes after the recent shooting death of a 19-year old man on Kalihi Street following an alleged freeway race. The practice of illegal racing also raises questions about available alternatives for locals to safely indulge in the urge to drive fast.

The Conversation’s Russell Subiono took the opportunity to find out. He sat down with Michael Kitchens of Circuit Hawaii, as well as Joey Battista, Jenn Parker, and Mia Vallero from the SCCA Hawaii Region.

This segment aired on The Conversation on June 28, 2021.
