Volcano Art Center Features Wildlife Illustrator: John Dawson
Artists today can dress up the look of nature by using a digital palette of special effects. But this is not every artist’s choice. After 18 years as a commercial illustrator, John D. Dawson felt called to nature and a desire to portray it---as is. Today he is acclaimed for his wildlife portraits that capture both the delicate details and the epic panoramas of the great outdoors. Many will recognize his work from the Nature in America stamp series he created for the US Postal Office. He has lived for the last 20 years in Hilo but his talents have been tapped far and wide by natural scientists and national parks alike. His work will be on display, January 10 - February 15, at the Volcano Art Center Gallery inside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
