Menehune Fishpond Invasive Mangrove: Mason Chock
In the struggle to preserve Hawaii’s native environment from invasive species, it’s too often a case of too little, too late… but there will always be people who won’t give up hope. Alekoko, Kauai’s iconic Menehune fishpond, one of the state’s most threatened sites, has been all but overgrown by invasive mangroves... Mason Chock is one of many on the Garden Isle who are fighting to save a little piece of Hawaii history. He joined us on the phone this morning.

Slack key guitarist: Doug Fitch
Raised in a rural mountain area, our next guest has been a performing musician since the age of 8! Drawn to the slack key tradition by the music as much as the people and the natural surroundings of the outdoors, singer songwriter Doug Fitch tries to paint a beautiful sonic picture with his playing style. He’s a regular at the Royal Hawaiian and Ko’olina Beach resort, and is here in the studio to debut a song titled Guardian Angels from his latest album.

After the recriminations have died down, there’s a difficult task ahead, and we had Vic on hand to help us sort it all out.
