Former Common Cause President: David Cohen
These days you might not think well of lobbyists. Mostly seen as the conduits of policy benefiting the rich and corporate interests, lobbyists can make it tough to believe they have middle America’s interests at heart. But David Cohen, former president of Common Cause, would say that depends on the messenger. He’s in Hawaii this week and joined us this morning.

Alive Ballet Center Full Circle: Maria Beltran
It’s a rare and valuable experience for students of the ballet to get the opportunity to perform with professional dancers, and equally rare for them to get a chance to perform original works. Maria Beltran’s student dancers from her Alive Ballet Center will get both this weekend when they perform her Spring Show, called “Full Circle.” It takes place this Saturday and Sunday at the Paliku Theater on the Windward Community College Campus.

Earth Day Sustainability Discussion: Jacqueline Kozak Thiel
It’s Earth Day - the 44th. The sheer longevity of an annual focus on preserving natural resources might make you think our consciousness has been saturated with those ideas. But local and global organizations continue to show us otherwise. Getting sustainability efforts to move across various state agencies can be challenging. That’s one of the big issues facing Jacqueline Kozak Thiel. So on this Earth Day we thought it was time to check in with the state’s sustainability coordinator.

Earth Day UH Biking Story: Patricia Dunn
As noted earlier, today is Earth Day, but there are plenty of people who’d like us to remain environmentally conscious every day, especially about our transportation needs. If you’ve spent much time around the UH Mano’a campus, and if you’re looking to move around in a hurry, you’ve probably gained a new appreciation of the humble bicycle. When you’re stuck in gridlock, it can be tempting to wish our traffic-laden cities would profit by the example of other urban areas around the world. Locally, UH Mano’a takes a day every year to remind us why biking is the way to go. It’s coming up Thursday and Pattie Dunn, avid cyclist and UH staffer, joined the show to tell us more.
