New County Webpage Compiles Disaster Recovery Resources For Hawai?i Island Residents

U.S. Geological Survey

A new webpage will connect Big Island residents affected by last year's K?lauea eruption with recovery resources.

Hawai?i County's Department of Research and Development created the page to help residents find and access federal and state resources.

"Currently, the main resources people can reach out to for help are through FEMA, through individual assistance," said Ali Slous, Hawai?i County's K?lauea Disaster Recovery Program Coordinator. "There is HI-DARRT, which is the Hawai?i Island Disaster Response and Recovery Team, which is a coalition of local relief agencies that they can request help from."

"As well as the Small Business Administration. Through which, disaster survivors can get help through loans that can cover different types of damage that they incurred during the eruption."

Slous says centralizing all the resources into one place is a big deal for disaster survivors. "

There are deadlines for some of the assistance programs currently available to residents. Such as the SBA's Economic Injury Disaster Loan deadline is Thursday, March 14th. Some assistance program deadlines have already passed, in which case the website will allow residents to check on the status of their claim. Residents can still seek assistance from HI-DARRT.

Slous says the new webpage is temporary until a standalone website is launched later this year.
