Helping Hand - February 28, 2014 full interview with MDA Hawaii

Helping Hand is a  weekly feature on HPR Friday afternoons at 5:30 on HPR1 stations heard statewide. Each week, All Things Considered local host Dave Lawrence puts the spotlight on an organization or event in the community that offers assistance to the disabled and other folks in need. This week we’re learning about the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Hawai`i Chapter.

According to their website, the Muscular Dystrophy Association is the world's leading nonprofit health agency dedicated to finding treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other neuromuscular diseases. It does so by funding worldwide research; by providing comprehensive health care services and support to MDA families nationwide; and by rallying communities to fight back through advocacy, fundraising and local engagement. They offer support group and community referrals and other ways of assisting folks and their caregivers. We’ll learn more about what they offer for folks in need, and how we can help them, with our guest Adrianna O’Donnell, Executive Director of MDA Hawai`i.
