Helping Hand - January 24, 2020 complete interview with Leilani Farm Sanctuary of Maui

This week on Helping Hand we have returning guest Leilani Farm Sanctuary of Maui, an all-volunteer, nonprofit that provides shelter to hundreds of rescued and sometimes previously abused animals. HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence speaks with Founder and President Laurelee Blanchard about the sanctuary and ways people can support them.

The residents at Leilani Farm Sanctuary include goats, chickens, rabbits, ducks, donkeys, geese, deer, cats, pigs, sheep, turkeys, guinea pigs, tortoises, and a cow. The Sanctuary saves animals destined for slaughter or orphaned after hunters killed their mothers, and educates the community on the humane treatment of animals, including educational programs for school groups and special needs visitors, and tours to the general public. You can learn more in the book by our guest, Finding Paradise: Leilani Farm Sanctuary of Maui.

Helping Hand is a feature airing statewide on HPR1 stations on Fridays as part of our afternoon drive broadcast of All Things Considered, and then archived online here. Every week, Helping Hand puts the spotlight on an organization, topic or event that offers assistance to people with disabilities and people and animals among the most vulnerable.
