This week on Helping Hand, HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence welcomes back Big Brothers, Big Sisters Hawaii. Dave is joined by President and CEO Dennis Brown, the very first little brother ever for this organization in Hawaii.

Since 1963, Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii has partnered with guardians, schools, corporations and others in the community to pair children (“Littles”) with carefully screened and trained volunteer mentors (“Bigs”). An affiliate of the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, they provide over 600 children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships.

Helping Hand airs on HPR1 stations Fridays as part of All Things Considered, and is archived online here. Helping Hand tries to put the spotlight on an organization, topic or event that offers assistance to people with disabilities and people and animals among the most vulnerable.
