State lawmakers ended the legislative session last week by slashing the marketing budget of the Hawaii Tourism Authority and giving counties the power to hike the hotel room tax. State Senator Glenn Wakai spoke with us to explain why.

Homeschooling on the rise in Hawai‘i

Hawai‘i families withdrew more than 6,400 students from the public education system to start homeschooling this school year. Though this upward trend could reverse as the pandemic dies down. Monk seal pup at Kaimana Beach

A newborn monk seal pup at Kaimana Beach in Waikiki is a big attraction these days. We talked to Angela Amlin, Hawaiian Monk Seal Recovery Coordinator for NOAA Fisheries, about what the public needs to know about keeping a distance to protect the endangered seals.
