Unite Here! Local 5 wants a seat at the table to discuss tourism reopening plans
With a week left before Hawaii's pre-travel testing program launches, Gov. David Ige revealed more details, which include limited use of a second test. Eric Gill of Unite Here! Local 5, which represents 11,000 hotel workers, has been asking that the union sit at the table for talks about reopening. Absent of that he has asked hoteliers to spell out protocols and protections for union members as they are called back to work.
U.S. Navy asks UH for help on Red Hill fuel tank
It was almost seven years ago that thousands of gallons of fuel leaked from a massive military fuel tank facility at Red Hill. The U.S. Navy has asked the University of Hawaii at Manoa College of Engineering to help find a solution to prevent the tanks from leaking. There are 20 tanks situated over our drinking water aquifer.
HPD chief disputes case closing data
Honolulu Police Chief Susan Ballard rejects FBI data that shows the department is failing to solve the vast majority of crimes but said she is taking steps to improve the clearance rate anyway.
