Today, HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence concludes two days with critically acclaimed British 60’s rock legends, pioneers The Yardbirds, and drummer Jim McCarty, joining us from France. "She Walks in Beauty – My Quest for the Bigger Picture" is his latest book, and focus’ on a lifetime of spiritual curiosity and the powerful effects of his wife Lizzie’s passing in 2020.

Jim is a returning guest, who first joined us when The Yardbirds played Hawaiian Brian’s in 2011, and later in 2016 when they performed again in Honolulu at the Blue Note Hawaiʻi.

The Yardbirds are credited with not only helping to further define the guitar rock sound and lay foundations a wide range of bands and in particular harder rocking ensembles would follow, but they had a trio of guitarists over the years, separately, who would go on to be among the most celebrated and successful guitarists of all time.

In part one of our feature, Jim shared his sobering pandemic journey, which included the passing of his wife in June of 2020. He explained how it pushed him to document a lifetime of spiritual curiosity in the new book and put him on a more spiritually-inclined path.

He also began a three-part storytelling session based around the three guitar heroes who each at different times were members of The Yardbirds, and in part one, sharing stories about Eric Clapton!

Today we conclude with memorable stories about the other two superstar guitarists who would be Jim’s bandmates in The Yardbirds, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. We’ll also dig into incredible stories about rock wild men like The Who’s Keith Moon and Led Zeppelin’s John Bonham you won’t want to miss! Plus we’ll post the complete nearly hour long new interview!
